Location
The restaurant is situated in a prime location on the Mambo Beach Boulevard—one of the most desirable locations imaginable. Mambo has been a well-known hotspot in Curaçao for years, attracting both tourists and locals. The boulevard consists of a lower and an upper level. The lower level features several beach clubs, shops, and small eateries.
This Grill restaurant with a Mexican menu was the first restaurant to establish itself on the upper level of the boulevard. It was later followed by other restaurants and shops. Currently, all commercial units on the boulevard are occupied, with 45 entrepreneurs operating businesses that employ approximately 400 people. More than half of them have been active on the boulevard for years.
El Grill is a popular restaurant in Curaçao, having been in operation for over 11 years. It is known for its delicious grilled and Mexican dishes. The restaurant is located in one of the island’s busiest tourist hotspots: Mambo Beach Boulevard. Thanks to this prime location, it enjoys a high volume of visitors.
The restaurant consists of both an indoor and outdoor section. The indoor area, covering 141 square meters, is designated for food production and storage. It includes a fully equipped kitchen, dishwashing area, walk-in refrigerator, storage room, and office space. The kitchen was completely renovated in 2019 and is divided into four zones: a Mexican food zone, a grill zone, a cold dish zone, and a serving zone.
The outdoor section consists of a 114-square-meter terrace where guests are seated and served. The restaurant offers a total of 135 seats. The terrace has a cozy and inviting layout, which is particularly appreciated by European visitors.
Market and Target Audience
The restaurant primarily caters to the tourist sector, though the local market also plays an important role. The customer base consists of approximately 80% tourists, of which around 60% come from the Netherlands (20–25% of whom reside in Curaçao), and 20% from the United States. The remaining 20% are local guests or visitors from other countries.
The restaurant benefits from its central location, surrounded by various hotels and apartments with high guest capacity, mainly catering to tourists. "Tourists" include visitors who do not reside on the island but stay for a short or semi-long period. "Local guests" include permanent residents, temporary workers, and long-term interns. Due to the diverse menu and pricing, the target audience is broad.
Competition
There are a total of 12 other restaurants in the immediate vicinity, with 7 located directly on the boulevard. However, these other restaurants are not considered direct competitors, as they offer different cuisines and menu types. Research has shown that this cluster of restaurants actually attracts more visitors to the boulevard. More than half of these visitors have not yet decided where to dine before arriving, making their final decision on the spot. This means that instead of competition, these neighboring restaurants can be seen as an opportunity for additional customer traffic.
The management policy of Mambo Boulevard is that the Grill restaurant with a Mexican menu should ideally be continued. However, the management is open to new concepts, provided they do not duplicate an existing concept on the boulevard.
